Keeping Lawyers in Perpetual Check
THE FACTS
Client X was engaged in Supreme Court proceedings. His own lawyer demanded that he deposit $140,000 into the firm's trust account, otherwise the lawyer would abandon Mr X in the middle of the case.
THE PROBLEM
The lawyer had previously taken $200,000 from Client X, with little to show for it. Now the lawyer was effectively blackmailing the Client to either pay another $140,000 with no end in sight, or be left in the lurch.
THE SOLUTION
Client X was put into contact with Joe. After a quick and sure grasp of the complex issues in dispute between Client X and his opponent in the Case, Joe was able to negotiate an excellent settlement between the parties. Not only did the greedy lawyer miss out on the $140,000, he is now subject to disciplinary proceedings.
